Drop-in authentication platform ships wallet-agnostic credential verification with flexible high-assurance biometric verification as US mobile driver's license adoption accelerates
Authsignal, a drop-in authentication and identity orchestration platform, today announced the launch of Digital Credential Verification, a new capability that enables businesses to accept and verify digital identity credentials stored in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, standards-based government wallets, and any compatible digital wallet.
More than 20 US states currently support mobile driver's licenses, with more expected by the end of 2026. NIST SP 800-63B-4, finalized in July 2025, formalizes synced passkeys and downgrades SMS OTP, accelerating the shift toward higher-assurance digital identity. At the same time, 25 states have adopted some form of age verification legislation, creating immediate demand for privacy-preserving credential verification that can confirm a user meets an age threshold without exposing their full identity. All EU member states must offer digital identity wallets by the end of this year under eIDAS 2.0, and service providers will be required to accept digital credentials by 2027. Businesses worldwide need a way to accept and verify these credentials, and Authsignal's Digital Credential Verification is the bridge between the credential infrastructure and the business applications that need to verify identity.
Digital Credential Verification provides a single integration point for accepting and verifying digital credentials from any compatible wallet platform, supporting the ISO mdoc format used by driver's licenses and photo IDs globally. These credentials support selective disclosure: businesses request only the verified fields they need, such as confirming a customer is over 18 without exposing their full identity. The verification flow works across desktop and mobile, including same-device and cross-device presentation, and the API drops into existing identity stacks with Authsignal's pre-built UI for fastest deployment.
Digital Credential Verification includes biometric holder verification, orchestrated through Authsignal's biometric vendor marketplace. The marketplace architecture allows businesses to configure the biometric provider that best fits their requirements, with the platform designed to support multiple best-of-breed vendors. At launch, iProov provides liveness verification, confirming that the person is real and genuinely present by matching a live selfie against the portrait contained in the credential in real time. This protects against stolen devices, shared wallets, and deepfake attacks. Portrait images are processed transiently and are not retained after verification. iProov's technology is trusted by the US Department of Homeland Security, the UK Home Office, the UK National Health Service, the Australian Taxation Office, GovTech Singapore, and major banks globally.
"New technology only succeeds when it meets customers where they are. We proved that with passkeys, and we're applying the same principle to digital credentials: drop-in integration, the right moment in the journey, and a user experience that never gets in the way," said Justin Soong, Founder and Director of Product at Authsignal. "With mobile driver's licenses rolling out across the US and age verification legislation accelerating state by state, businesses need a way to accept these credentials without a major integration project. Our Digital Credential Verification suite is built on that principle: reducing the integration complexity and replacing it with the flexible drop-in patterns our customers expect."
"A digital credential is only as trustworthy as the person presenting it," said Andrew Bud, Founder and CEO of iProov. "As organizations increasingly rely on digital credentials to make identity verification more secure and convenient, they also need confidence that every credential is being presented by its legitimate holder. Our partnership with Authsignal brings government-grade biometric assurance into the digital credential verification flow, ensuring businesses and their customers can trust the process from end to end."
